The All India LIC Employees Federation has demanded the scrapping of Bullet Train project by the Modi government in the wake of the incident of collapse of railway bridge near Andheri station.  Modi government is spending Rs 1 trillion on the ambitious project.

The collapse of railway bridge adjacent to Andheri railway station calls for urgent steps towards joint meeting of high-level railway engineers and railway minister along with finance minister to decide the concrete measures, it said in a statement.

“A far bigger tragedy is luckily avoided but with reckless development of Mumbai, a horrible future stares at its residents. Therefore, what is immediately needed is scrapping of Bullet Train project designed exclusively for the convenience of diamond merchants, staying in Surat and Ahmedabad and doing business in Mumbai. Along with it is also necessary to withhold the project of Coastal Way, callously ignoring the steps now being taken by countries in Europe and USA, with late wisdom. Needless to add that immediate steps must be taken to curb the number of private cars and high-rise buildings,” Arvind Nachane, working president of All India LIC Employees Federation said.
