In what comes as a matter of pride for the Khadi–the symbol of Swadeshi, used by Mahatma Gandhi during the Freedom Struggle–the US acting Ambassador to India Mary Kay Loss Carlson had visited the ‘Khadi India’ outlet at Connaught Place here on Wednesday as she has decided to wear a Khadi Saree during the Independence Day celebrations on August 15.

Carlson was received at the Khadi Bhawan by Sangeeta Saxena, wife of Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) Chairman V K Saxena, who guided the US envoy in choosing the Indian attires for her, besides describing the importance of Khadi.

During her hour-long stay at the outlet, Carlson got mystified with the big range of Khadi products there. She surfed more than three dozen sarees, to finally select five best ones for her, apart from some fine Khadi fabrics like raw silk, matka silk and katiya. She even tried few of them before the mirror that how it looked on her. Not only that, she even shared the video of her visit to ‘Khadi India’ outlet on her official twitter account. Earlier, she also paid floral tribute to Mahatma Gandhi there.

Meanwhile, enthused by the US Envoy’s visit to ‘Khadi India’ outlet, KVIC Chairman V K Saxena said that it was an honour for Khadi artisans. “What else can be a better pride for us that the Ambassador of the first democracy of the world has visited our outlet, to select the sarees for the occasion of the 70th anniversary of our democracy,” he said.​​​​​​
