Airtel’s new plan to take on Rel’s Jio JioBillionaire Sunil Bharti Mittal plans to open a new front in his company’s battle with arch-rival Reliance Jio. Citing sources, Economic Times reports that Mittal has started “exploratory” talks to merge the direct-to-home business under Airtel Digital TV with Essel Group’s DishTV. If a deal materialises, the combined entity would be the world’s largest TV distribution player with 38 million subscribers and a 61% share of India’s DTH market. In October last year, Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries acquired majority interest in the country’s two largest cable TV and broadband companies: Hathway Cable and DEN Networks.
