In the apprehension of split in the Congress legislators, finally Congress president Sonia Gandhi removed its party chapter head and former education minister Ashok Choudhary with immediate effect. Vice-president of Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee (BPCC), Kaukab Quadri, has been given the charge of president as temporary arrangement till appointment of new permanent president. AICC also, dissolved all BPCC committees.
There was a rumor doing the rounds in Bihar for quite some time that Ashok Choudhary was trying to split majority of Congress MLAs. There are 27 MLAs of Congress in 247-member Bihar State Assembly. In the fear of breaking up of Congress, AICC vice-president, Rahul Gandhi, had called all Congress MLAs and MLCs in Delhi. Ashok Choudhary was not happy after disruption of Grand Alliance. It was since then the news about uncertainty of Ashok Choudhary’s continuance within the party started spreading. Higher officials of AICC were regular monitoring the activity of BPCC. So, different types of news were also coming in the media about Bihar Congress.
It was then that Ashok Choudhary himself asked AICC to clarify the stand of the party whether they want keep him on the BPCC’ president post or not and ultimately he was removed.
After getting information on his removal from the post of BPCC’ president through media news, he objected the way of his removal and said, “I didn’t get any information from the party for my removal. I got the information through the media. I worked hard for Congress more than four years and hence I deserved ceremonious quit. I would have resigned myself had the party asked me so.”
It is to be noted that before last election of Bihar Assembly, there were only four MLAs of Congress left. After many years, Congress won on so many Assembly seats. Ashok Choudhary was made president of Bihar Congress in 2014 after Choudhary Mahboob Ali Kaiser.
