Hemang Palan – a journalist turned actor

After pursuing Diploma in Dramatics from Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in Mumbai, Hemang Palan started acting character roles in Gujarati commercial plays while serving ABNI-TV 18 Channel (now, known as CNBC TV 18) as its stock market reporter in 1997. Acting has always been Hemang’s passion and hobby. In 1997, veteran director Chandrakant Kulkarni and producer Rajendra Butala auditioned Hemang for an illustrious role in much-acclaimed commercial play, ‘Gandhi Virudh Gandhi’. This play depicted an uneasy and distressed relationship of Mahatma Gandhi with his sons. Hemang’s performance as Bapu’s Personal Secretary, Mahadev Desai won accolades as it was a super hit stage production.

Thereafter, there was no looking back as Hemang continued to blossom as a television artist and went on performing character roles in TV shows produced by Mumbai based production houses. Hemang has acted in 46 TV shows and 3 movies so far. “I have had an opportunity to act with veteran actors Seema Biswas and Om Puri too. Also, I learnt acting skills while watching the performance of great actor, Naseeruddin Shah as Mahatma Gandhi on stage,” said Hemang.

He added, “I want to be remembered as one of the finest character artists of the Indian entertainment industry.”
Hemang’s stellar performances in TV shows like Savdhaan India, Taarak Mehta Kaa Oolta Chashmah, Meri Aashiqui Tumse Hi, Thapki Pyaar Ki, CID, Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya, Piya Ka Ghar Pyaara Lage, Chhan Chhan, Adalat, Koi Ane Ko Hai, etc have earned him huge recognition.
