First time in its history; the apex body of Lohana Gujarati community, ‘Lohana Mahaparishad’ held a conclave of Mumbai-based residents of Lohana community in Mulund on April 26, 2019 to declare the support of community to BJP-SS Loksabha contestant from Mumbai North-East constituency, Manoj Kotak.
The conclave was presided by well-known Lohana community leaders including Pravin Kotak, Piyush Gantha, Nitin Pandhi, Hetal Jobanputra and Dr Nima Acharya (MLA, Gujarat assembly).
“It is an historic occasion as so far, Lohana Mahaparishad has never supported any political party or a contestant. However, since Manoj Kotak has been selected by PM Narendra Modi to contest the North East constituency Loksabha seat of Mumbai, our community feels elevated,” said Lohana Mahaparishad President Pravin Kotak.
Piyush Gantha, Mumbai-based Lohana Mahaparishad’s office bearer, said, “Although Manoj Kotak is a Lohana, his affinity towards Jains, Brahmins and all castes and sub-castes of Gujaratis is well respected by BJP-SS combine. He is an ideal Lohana leader and the voice of all Gujaratis of Mumbai.”
The sitting MP of Mumbai North-East Loksabha constituency, Kirit Somaiya too is a Lohana community member.
Traditionally considered as a peace loving community, ‘Suryavanshi’ Lohanas or Master of Swords have contributed a lot to the economic prosperity of India. It is widely believed that originally Lohanas were a prominent community of the Kshatriya jatt caste that originated in Iran and Afghanistan, then in the region of Punjab and later on migrated to Sindh and present day Gujarat state in India around 800 years ago.
