Mumbai Press Club condemns killing of journo by naxals

The Mumbai Press Club condemns the killing of Achyuta Nanda Sahu, a Doordarshan video journalist, in a Maoist attack in Dantewada district in Chhattisgarh.

Sahu and his colleagues were in the Maoist-affected region for election coverage and was accompanying a patrolling team in Dantewada.

The naxal attack on journalists is a serious concern, and such acts need to be tackled aggressively by the governments, security forces and all people concerned.

We demand a full-proof protection for media persons while they perform their official duty in any situations. We also demand a suitable compensation for Sahu’s family, a Press Club statement said.

We demand that the Centre and Chhattisgarh governments take cognizance of the issue and bring to book those responsible in killing Sahu, it added.

The Mumbai Press Club stands in solidarity with the victim’s family in their hour of grief.

The Mumbai Press Club would do whatever is possible for the bereaved family.
