In a most reprehensible act, a group of youths protesting amendments in the SC/ST Act has burnt copy of the Indian Constitution in New Delhi on August 9. This condemnable act was done right under the nose of Narendra Modi-led NDA Government at Jantar Mantar.

The youths also organised a protest march and raised slogans against the SC/ST Act, Dr BR Ambedkar and the Constitution. In India burning of Constitution is a criminal activity. So, sedition charges must be slapped on the accused.

Burning of Indian Constitution is anti-national. No one has the right to burn or disrespect the National flag, the Constitution or any other symbol of the Nation. Nation is bigger any caste or religion or ideology.
The incident clearly depicts that the Constitution of India is not protected in this country and as it burnt by goons while media houses at large shut their mouth on it. It showed that how much Indians are interested in their freedom. This also showed the agenda of this government for saffronisation.

The truth is all political parties collectively abuse the Constitution and if needed change it for their own personal gains. Unfortunately, they get away every time. All those who oppose this great Indian Constitution should know that it is the world’s best Constitution, which is admired by all countries.

The mere fact is that a Dalit was instrumental in framing the Constitution. This has encouraged a lot of upper caste people to insult it. This must be dealt with sternly.

The cardinal reason why reservation should be there for another 200 years: Brahmins and other upper caste people, but particularly Brahmins, have been atrocious to Dalits for the last 2000 years. Dalits must be compensated. This has been stated by Ramesh Sharma, a Brahmin himself. He said: “I am saying this despite being a Brahmin myself because I want to be freed from the consequences of my ancestors’ sins.”

The names of the people allegedly involved in burning the copy of the Constitution include: Sanjay Sharma, Deepak Gaur, Ashutosh Kumar, Santosh Shukla, Anup Dubey, Rohit Pandey, Ashutosh Jha, Kamini Jha, Srinivas Pandey and Pravesh Sahni – all Brahmins.
Accused not booked under sedition charge
The police have, booked the accused under sections of Prevention of Insults of National Honour Act and Indian Penal Code. This is not proper.
A 40-year-old man was arrested for allegedly burning a copy of the Constitution of India in protest against the amendments in the SC/ST Act, the police said on August 12. DCP (New Delhi) Madhur Verma said the accused, Deepak Gaur, has been booked under IPC sections 153 (A)/505/120B/34 and Section 2 of the Prevention of Insults of National Honour Act, 1971.
Anil Tanwar, the national in-charge of the Akhil Bhartiya Bheem Sena, had filed a complaint at the Parliament Street police station on August 11, alleging that members of the Youth for Equality burnt the copy of the Constitution and raised slogans against BR Ambedkar. The complainant also submitted a CD containing a video of the incident, the police said.

During investigation, it was revealed that on August 9, two different organisations — the Youth Equality Foundation (Azad Sena) and Arakshan Virodhi Party — held a joint protest at the Parliament Street, the police said.
The Arakshan Virodhi Party participated in the protest under the leadership of Deepak Gaur and Youth Equality Foundation was headed by one Abhishekh Shukla. Three different police teams were formed to nab the accused. The teams raided the houses of suspects in different parts of Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh but they were found absconding.

Subsequently, police nabbed Gaur from Faridabad. During interrogation, he revealed that he and Shukla conspired to burn the copy of the Constitution with an intention to bring the attention of government against the amendments in SC/ST Act, the police said.
The Mumbai Congress on Monday staged a protest against the alleged burning of the Constitution in New Delhi and demanded that sedition charges be slapped on the accused.
